Et in Arcadia ego

Fri Aug 28, 2009, 2:15 AM
In Arcadia, pencils never blunt.
In Arcadia, the sun shines at least once every day.
In Arcadia, cats only shed in designated areas.
In Arcadia, toast never burns and coffee is always hot.
In Arcadia, the phone never rings while you're painting, or in the bath.
In Arcadia, you only screw things up to learn from it.
In Arcadia, you don't need anything you haven't got.
In Arcadia, there is always more time.

Finally finished that painting called Lust. I'm happier now with the degree of sizzle, like you ones called it. The details on the hands are turned also ok.
:iconax010tl:
She sizzles even more now! - She's turned out magnificent, you must be very pleased. The shading is so lifelike, and I just love the difference in temperatures. Gorgeous.

I like it too. But somehow it makes me even happier when other people like it. This has been a great experience and I think that the encouragement I'm getting here is as unexpected as precious. Thank you again.

I love Pinky!
As for the Brain - he is just insane.
:iconax010tl:
I'm afraid I tend to identify with Pinky ... frequently!!! Especially when out of my depth, which seems to happen a lot!

Keep up the fab work,
ax

Yep, looks like you're keeping busy! Like the vintage car, excellent tonal work. I'm very busy at work but will try and make time to pop by whenever I can. Keep up the fab work,

I just read the conversation about the oil versus acrylics. I had experimented with many brands of acrylics and I can tell you this: it makes a huge difference to work with the top of the top. It is money well spend to buy just the basic five colors of top-quality acrylics and then mix them any way you need it on your palette. The absolute topper is Rembrandt from Talens. Once you use it, there is no way back. I used to buy it in large containers but they discontinued the production and now only make small tubes. Talens has now a new line called Amsterdam Expert. The quality is very similar if not equal to the good old Rembrandt. An absolute must have if you care about brightness and saturation.

Touché...
Yes, I used to paint a lot in oils, until I got thoroughly fed up with the whole brushwashing ceremony. The colours are more vibrant, unless you get top-notch acrylics, and they have a lovely glassy quality that's hard to replicate with acrylics, but for large pieces I prefer my cheap and cheerful acrylics.

Apparently, you can now get water-based oils which mean you can wash brushes in plain water, so no more messing with noxious chemicals (darn, there goes that free high!). If you're worried about cost, I was advised to buy the best quality I could afford but limit my palette; you can get by with surprisingly few different colours, to start out.

Keep up the superb work,
ax
:iconsmile4thelie:
yeah, ive heard they make quite the mess. =]

i might have to try that sometime. i love how vibrant they are! =]

thank you, and you keep up on your work too!! =]
